USA, CA, Mendocino - Gay Friendly

As a gay couple together since 1992, we believe that marriage and all the responsibilities and benefits that come with it should be available to committed gay and lesbian couples everywhere. So we created Purple Unions, a place where gay and lesbian couples can find gay friendly wedding vendors to help them plan their perfect wedding day.

California passed a domestic partnership bill in 1999, and expanded it in 2001 and 2003. In 2000, Proposition 22, a legal ban on gay marriage, passed. In 2004, San Francisco welcomed gay and lesbian couples, and 4,000+ couples married, but the CA Supreme Court shut down the weddings. In June 2008, the State Supreme Court brought marriage equality California. Thousands married, but then Prop 8 passed in November. A lawsuit ultimately reached the US Supreme Court, and in June 2013 Prop 8 was repealed.

Gay and lesbian couples can also adopt in California.
