As a gay couple together since 1992, we believe that marriage and all the responsibilities and benefits that come with it should be available to committed gay and lesbian couples everywhere. So we created Purple Unions, a place where gay and lesbian couples can find gay friendly wedding vendors to help them plan their perfect wedding day.

The UK has offered civil partnerships for gay and lesbian couples since 2005, a separate but equal institution offering the same rights and responsibilities as marriage, but under a different name.

In July, 2013, the Parliament in England and Wales passed the marriage equality bill. Lesbian couples started marrying in March, 2014. Scotland passed its own version of the bill in February 2014, with weddings scheduled to start there in the fall. Northern Ireland has not passed a marriage equality bull

Gay and lesbian couples in England have been able to adopt since 2002, and in Scotland since 2009. Northern Ireland does n ot allow same sex couples to adopt. The Catholic Church was exempted from both civil partnership and adoption laws.
